Transparency matters. Here's how shops are listed, how we make money, and how you can trust the information on this site.

How Shops Are Added

Every shop is hand-verified. We do not scrape listings from other directories. Each listing is researched using public sources: the shop's website, Google Maps, Instagram, and the Oregon Secretary of State business registry.

Shops can be added in three ways:

By us. We research and verify Portland-area print shops and add them ourselves.
By suggestion. Anyone can suggest a shop using our "Add a Shop" form. We verify the shop before publishing.
By the owner. Shop owners can claim their listing and provide updated information.

Listings are free. Every legitimate Portland print shop can have a free, accurate listing on this site.

What Verified Means

Shops with a Verified by owner badge have been claimed by their owner. The owner confirmed the information is accurate and can opt in to receive quote requests.

All listings (claimed or not) show a Last verified date. This is the last time we confirmed the shop is open and operating.

What Featured and Owner's Shop Mean

"Owner's shop" marks Black Bell Co., the shop that runs this site. This badge is never sold or applied to other shops.
"Featured" (coming later) will mark paid placements. Featured shops will appear in a clearly labeled section and may have enhanced listings with photos and portfolio items. Featured placement does not change neutral sort order or editorial recommendations.

We do not sell fake reviews or pay-to-rank listings. Featured shops pay for visibility, not for misleading buyers.

How Shops Are Sorted

By default, shops are sorted alphabetically or by category relevance.

We do not rank shops by who pays us. Featured shops appear in a separate, clearly labeled section. When we publish editorial "best of" lists, selections are based on real criteria (services offered, specialties, verified owner claims), not payment.

How We Make Money

Right now, this site does not generate revenue. All listings are free.

In the future, we may monetize through:

Featured listings: Shops can pay to appear in a featured section with enhanced profiles.
Lead referral fees: Shops may pay per qualified quote request they receive through the site.
Category sponsorships: Shops or suppliers can sponsor category pages (e.g., "Screen Printing guide sponsored by X").
Direct-sold ads: Display ads for related businesses (blank apparel suppliers, local services, etc.).

All paid placements will be clearly labeled ("Featured," "Sponsored," "Ad").

How the Quote Form Works

The quote request form lets buyers request quotes from Portland print shops. Here's how it works:

The buyer fills out their project details (quantity, deadline, print method, etc.).
The buyer chooses where to send the request:
- Black Bell Co. (the shop that runs this site)
- Specific shops (only claimed shops that opted in to receive leads)
- Any matching shop (we route it to shops that offer the services requested)
The buyer consents to sharing their information with the selected shops.
Shops receive the request by email and respond directly to the buyer. We do not take a cut of the transaction.

Unclaimed shops do not receive quote leads. Buyers can see their phone number and website but must contact them directly.

Corrections and Updates

If you see outdated or incorrect information:

Shop owners: Claim your listing and request updates.
Anyone else: Use the "Report an issue" link on the shop's listing page.

We review corrections manually. Accurate listings are in everyone's best interest.

Privacy

We collect minimal information: quote requests and claim forms. We do not sell your data. Information is only shared with the shops you select. See our Privacy Policy for details.
